What is a home measurement or floorplan service?
Floorplan services are just what they sound like: An appraiser measures the dimensions and area of your property, then draw a basic or highly detailed layout based on your requirements.
The appraiser's report and floorplan are forms that can be used to prove an accurate Gross Living Area (GLA), the sum of all livable space, of your home.
These services are helpful and sometimes necessary when challenging property taxes or selling a property.
How do home measurement services work?
During a measurement or floorplan service, a certified appraiser measures your home with a measuring tool — generally a tape measure or laser measuring device.
As they move around the property, they notate the layout of the rooms and other features, like stairs patios, and fireplaces.
They may make a rough sketch out the property.
Then, the appraiser creates a report and a more detailed floorplan showing the total square footage and the general layout of the house.
